nine. is an 8 minute short, shot on 16mm film, inspired by the track Revolution 9 by the Beatles (White Album).
If the visuals are the anatomy of a film then the sound is the heart and soul.
The soundscape of the film was developed first and then used to motivate the visual and narrative imagery, through a process involving formal analysis and free association. The final soundtrack used will be an original score that is the combination of composed music, interview material and recorded everyday sounds.
nine. is the story of Molly. Approaching middle-age, she is alone in an inner city bedsit with only her own invasive mind for company. Too delirious, too painful, too late; she can no longer cope.
On the TV, all too familiar images flicker. We venture into Molly’s past. Flashes of the Australian Bush. Movement in dark corners. Her house of cards is threatened.
Is it better to face the excruciating task of unraveling herself or to remain blissfully stuck in a never ending present?
